In the year 1787, Lieutenant William Bligh, a young British Naval Officer having most recently served as sailing master to Captain James Cook on his voyages to the South Pacific, was commissioned by Sir Joseph Banks and the British Admiralty, to undertake a voyage in a small ship, HMS Bounty.

Bluenose II

The purpose of the trust is to preserve the schooner and ensure that the legacies of traditional seamanship skills and the craft of building great wooden ships are maintained for future generations of Nova Scotians.

Home of British Columbia Viking Ship Project and "Munin", a 40 foot working replica of the famous Norwegian Gokstad Ship.

Here you will find information about various aspects of naval operations during the period 1650-1850 and a listing of age of sail related fiction (C.S. Forester, Alexander Kent, Dudley Pope, Patrick O'Brian, etc.) and links.

VASA Museet
The Museum was inaugurated in 1990. In the large shiphall stands the warship Vasa - the only remaining, intact 17th century ship in the world. The lower rig has been rebuilt, complete with masts, stays and shrouds.
