The Mariners'
Museum, one of the largest international maritime
museums in the world, is dedicated to "illuminating mankind's experience
with the sea and the events that shaped the course and progress of civilization."
It is a nonprofit, educational institution accredited since 1972 by the
American Association of Museums.

The maritime art and history collection,
begun in 1803, is the finest in America. It is internationally renowned
for holdings of approximately 30,000 paintings, drawings, and prints.
The collection also encompasses 20,000 maritime objects dating from the
seventeenth through the early twentieth centuries, including ship models,
marine decorative arts, tools, weapons, navigational instruments, and
ship and yacht plans.

The Historical
Collections of the Great Lakes (HCGL) at Bowling Green State
University, is a division of University Libraries. Its purpose is
to collect, preserve, and make available to scholars, students, and the
public, historical materials documenting the Great Lakes region and connecting
waterways. The HCGL's collections include materials related to commercial
shipping, shipbuilding, navigation, maritime law, commercial fishing,
shipwrecks, yachting, labor history, popular literature, freshwater ecology,
recreation, and the history of Great Lakes ports.

The National
Maritime Museum (NMM) was formally established by Act of Parliament
in 1934 and opened to the public by King George VI on 27 April 1937. The
collections comprise about 2.48 million items, many on loan to museums
elsewhere in Britain. The public galleries at Greenwich display a thematically
arranged selection and the remainder are accessible for public interest
and research in various ways.

HMS Victory
is the only 18th Century ship of the line still to be found anywhere in
the world. She is the world's oldest surviving warship still in use and
is the flagship of the Second Sea Lord, Commander in Chief Naval Home
Command.

The Western Australian
Museum was established in 1891 (as the Perth
Museum) and its initial collections were of geological, ethnological
and biological specimens. Indeed, it can claim to be one of the oldest
scientific institutions in the state.
The 1960s and 1970s saw the addition of responsibility for developing and maintaining the states anthropological, archaeological, maritime archaeological and social and cultural history collections. |

Department of the Navy Ship Model Program collects,
preserves, interprets, and displays scale models in federal museums and
offices and in state and local public educational museums and facilities.
Depicting the rich tradition, historical heritage, and technological development
of the United States Navy from earliest times to the present, the Department
of the Navy Ship Model Collection is recognized as a precious national
treasure.
