Grain: Straight to slightly wavy.

Figure: Is an even reddish brown. Sapwood is a cream color with a pink tint. Madrone looks like Swiss Pear.

Texture: Fine and uniform.

Properties: The wood is strong and stiff, somewhat brittle, hard and heavy. Works well with all tools and will finish to a polished surface.

Uses: Small fittings, rails, trim work and delicate turned items. The wood makes nice framing and hull timbering . Suitable for carvings.
